 Welcome to Summer 2011/12 season

Please note:

There are new rules
for this season see the link top left hand corner.

Full regulations apply to Summer Hockey in respect to the wearing of required safety gear - NO EXCEPTIONS). Failure to wear the correct gear will result in yuor immediate removal from the game until you comply.

A player was recently suspended for 3 games as a result in violent behaviour - all palyers are referred to the special rules regarding penalties applicable in summer. IHV will not tolerate such actions in this recreational grade - offending players can expect a long holiday from the sport if they appear before the IHV tribunal and are found guilty.

NOTE FROM IHV PRESIDENT

Summer comp this year has seen some changes, and I wish to communicate some important facts, so you all understand the changes and why they are necessary.

Since the Icehouse Docklands opened we have enjoyed fantastic growth within our sport, our membership for Winter 2011 grew by 40 %, this has not only stretched our ice time availability but pushed our demands on volunteers, on and off-ice officials to the limit. We always knew there would be some adjustments necessary but the Ice House has forced ice time changes on us which, as hard as we have tried to resolve, are completely out of our control. The 2011-12 summer competition and next year’s Winter competition will be hit hard by reduced ice time availability at the Ice House (of course taking nothing away from Oakleigh, who continue to support us with great ice time, and we thank the management for this), but this means our ability to cater for all those players wanting to play Ice Hockey year round has been severely curtailed. In order to offer Ice Hockey to our expanding membership we have had to think outside the box, and as such please understand the following.

For Winter next year 2012, we have substantial ice time reductions and continue to have limited numbers of experienced officials, and at this point will not be able to offer the same volume of games that we did this year. Our History, charter and priority for Winter is to our ‘Mainline competition which includes Juniors, Prem C, Premier Reserves, Premier A, AIHL and State Teams, as such we will not be able to offer the Recreational levels the same amount of hockey as this year. This is a blow, and we are not happy about it, but it is about limited resources, and about being fair, pro-active and balancing the demands of all levels. We simply cannot offer everyone year round hockey anymore.

Therefore the future focus will be:

Winter - Mainline hockey Leagues
Summer  - Recreational Leagues and Development

Recreational players please note that Premier C is a fully competitive grade with an increased level of speed, player skill, and an increase in the level of body contact compared to Rec C. It is also subject to a Player Draft system. As such, it will not suit all levels of existing Rec C players and competition for spots on these expanded teams will be high and selection will be based on skill level.

As part of the transition to this arrangement we modified the current summer season. Summer comp this year is no longer intended for our elite players, it is focussed more for our less experienced and newer members whilst still allowing normal Winter players some access for their development.
IHV has debated this, and in conjunction with our member clubs, we believe this is the absolute fairest way to offer Ice Hockey to as many as possible, the fairest way to encourage good competition and still cater for beginners, through to our Elite, properly and professionally over a 12 month period.

We are however proposing to allow clubs to field 2 Premier C teams in the Winer 2012 season. The expanded grade mayl operate on a mid season split grade competion similar to the manner Rec C operated in 2011.

Thanks for your co-operation and understanding as we attempt to cater for everyone within the constriants placed upon us. Good luck and enjoy your ice hockey.

Andrew McDowell

President Ice Hockey Victoria

SUMMER ICE 2011/12 - Rules to Note

The following are special rules that apply to summer ice and which players and team officials need to be fully aware of:

2 x "game misconduct" penalties during the season, and your season is ended

3 x minor penalties in one game, and your game is over. (Note: A check from behind is 2 and 10 - that is two (2) penalties).

Teams are required to field 7 players plus a goalie or 8 players at the schedule commencement time of the game, otherwise a forfeit will occur.

All teams must supply at least one penalty box attendant and one scorer – this is part of your registration – any team failing to comply with this will be denied participation.

All players should be registered by now but just in case players may still do so on-line (same process as for winter) via the Point Streak system.  Juniors $100 Seniors $120.
