2010 Finals

The 2010 Finals are under way and results are as follows:

Premier A

Congratulations to the Braves as Minor Premiers, finishing on top of the ladder but only 2 points clear of the Tigers in 2nd. Blackhawks finished 3rd, while last year's Premiers suffered a poor season registering only 3 wins to finish 4th.

However it was the Tigers first into the Grand Final after they beat the Braves in the first Semi Final 5 -3. The Rangers continued their late season form and downed the Blackhawks 3 - 1 in the other semi.

The Braves however managed to fight off a determined Rangers outfit to win the Preliminary Final 6 -3 and will now join the Tigers in the Grand Final series.

This means last year's finalists the Rangers and Blackhawks will be watching from the side lines this time around.

Game 1

The Tigers outclassed the Braves having the bulk of the play, leading all the way and scoring 4 goals to 1 to take a 1 - 0 lead in the series.

First 1 - 0, Second 1 - 1, Third 2 - 0: Final 4 - 1

Premier Reserve

Congratulations to the Sharks on winning the Minor Premiership finishing 2 points clear of the Demons. However first blood goes to the Demons who downed the Sharks 4 - 3 in the first Semi Final to go straight inot the Grand Final.

The Braves defeated the Blackhawks in the other Semi Final clash 2 -1 after being even after the overtime period and going to a penalty shootout but went down to the Sharks in the Preliminary Final 2 - 3 setting up a Demons/Sharks Grand Final Series.

Game 1

After a scoreless first period the Demons proved far too strong for the Sharks scoring a comfortable 5 - 0 win and take the lead in the series.

First 0 - 0, Second 4 - 0, Third 1 - 0: Final 5 - 0

Premier C

A forfeit during the season cost the Demons dearly, the loss of 4 points giving the Braves top honours in the Premier C grade, but they showed they should have got top spot with a 5 -1 win in the first Semi Final to go straight into the Grand Final.

Saints downed the Blackhawks in the second Semi Final 4 - 2 but paying the price for missing players could not overcome the Braves, going down 9 - 0 in the Preliminary Final.

Game 1

The Braves turned the tables on the Demons and continued their good form with another strong win. Leading 4 - 0 after the first period the Demons clawed one back in the second and held the Braves scoreless. Although scoring again in the third period the Braves managed 3 to end the game 7 - 2.

First 4 - 0, Second 0 - 1, Third 3 - 1: Final 7 - 2

Braves lead the series 1 -0.

Recreational C

In our first year of the new Recreational C grade the Demons finished on the same points as Braves but took the Minor Premiership with a better percentage. They then cemented a spot in the Grand Final with a 4 -2 win over the Braves in the first Semi Final

Sharks finshed 3rd but could have taken the title if not for a forfeit costing them 4 points and then went down to the Saints 5 - 4 in the second Semi Final.

The Braves and Saints fought out the Preliminary Final which saw the Braves down the Saints 4 - 2 in a come from behind win.

The means the two top finishing teams the Demons and Braves will battle out the Grand Final series.

Game 1

The Braves turned the tables on the Demons and got away to a good start and held the lead to come away with a close 2 - 0 win and take the lead in the series.

First 1 - 0, Second 1 - 0, Third 0 - 0: Final 2 - 0

Midget

The Flyers were run away winners in the home and away series taking top spot with 11 points clear of second place getters the Bears. They then proved too strong in the first Semi Final downing the Bears 5 - 2 to advance to the Grand Final series.

The Bears met the Bombers (who defeated the Pirates 5 -3 in the other Semi Final) in the Preliminary Final and proved too strong taking the close game 4 -3.

This means the Bears get another go at the Flyers in the Grand Final series.

Game 1

Proving finals are another level the Flyers had to fight hard for a close win. After holding each other scoreless in the first period the flyers took the leadv in the second. They scored again early in the third but the Bears came back with their first for the game. The Flyers however held out for the win.

First 0 - 0, Second 1 - 0, Third 1 - 1: Final 2 - 1

Bantam

After finishing on top of the ladder the Pirates accounted for the Bears 7 - 4 to go straight into the Grand Final. Caleb Butler scoring all 7 Pirate goals.

Bombers who, although finishing fourth, downed the third place getters the Flyers 3 - 2 in the other Semi.

The Bears then battled the Bombers in the Preliminary Final and went down 5 - 4 which sees the form finding Bombers now take on the Pirates in the Grand Final series.

Game 1

The Bombers continued their giant killing way taking the first game in a very close affair. Although Caleb Butler scored 3 goals for the Pirates it was not enough as the Bombers managed to come from behind, being 2 - 1 down after the first, level after the second and one ahead at the end.

First 1 - 2, Second 2 - 1, Third 1 - 0: Final 4 - 1

Game 1

The Wildcats continued there good end of season form to take a 1 - 0 lead in the series after accounting for the Flyers 3 - 2.

After letting the Flyers take the lead 2 - 1 after the first, they held the Flyers scoreless for the rest of the game whilst scoring 2 of the their own.

THE GOODALL CUP RETURNS TO VICTORIA

After 28 years interstate, the Goodall cup, the third oldest Ice Hockey Championship trophy ‘in the world’ that’s still played for today, has returned to Victoria.

Melbourne Ice won the AIHL Championship last night at the Icehouse Docklands in front of 1500 fans in spectacular style. After a very hard fought Preliminary Final win over the Sydney Bears 2 – 1, the Ice met the defending Champs Adelaide Adrenaline in the Grand Final.

The game started at a frantic pace with the first period ending in a 2 all battle. The second period was just as fast and ended with Melbourne just in front 4 – 3. With great pressure and obvious determination Melb drew first blood in the third, up 5 – 3 before Adelaide hit back, 5 – 4. Then the decisive moment, after an error by the Adelaide defence, the Ice swooped to capitalize making it 6 – 4. The Ice then played hard and smart and the Adrenaline were done, 6 – 4 and the Goodall cup was Melbourne’s.

Congratulations to the Melbourne Ice team on a fantastic effort and great display of Ice Hockey at this top level.

Seeing the Goodall cup raised by ‘Our’ Boys is something really special and the Ice proved the harder you work the luckier you get. Congratulations to all the Melbourne Ice crew as well as coaches, managers, staff, helpers, medics, and volunteers. What a great year, what a great reward.

Very well done too, to all the IHV On and Off ice officials that made the AIHL finals a success. It was fantastic to have the finals here in Melbourne with the result just icing on an awesome cake.
